AJ Capital Partners, a real estate firm based in Nashville, has unveiled innovative designs for the transformation of Belle Meade Plaza into Belle Meade Village. The redevelopment plans showcase modern buildings set amidst extensive greenery, aiming to revitalize the 10.5-acre site, known since 1967, into a vibrant residential and retail hub in one of Nashville’s most esteemed neighborhoods.
Purchased for $87 million in July, the project at Harding and White Bridge pikes is envisioned to feature nearly 400 apartments and condos, retail spaces, and a boutique hotel with up to 78 rooms.
Central to the development's design is the creation of a "walkable community ecosystem," with parks making up about sixty percent of the site. Enhancements include activating Richland Creek, linking to the greenway, and providing connections to the pedestrian-friendly Sylvan Park neighborhood and McCabe Park, emphasizing green spaces and public walkways.
However, the project's scope and location have sparked debate among locals, with concerns about traffic, building heights, and the strain on infrastructure dominating discussions at Planning Commission and Metro Council meetings. Despite the controversy, the rezoning was approved in a 28-1 vote, with conditions such as a maximum building height of 11 stories to address some community concerns. This decision aligns with Metro's plans for managing Nashville's growth, setting the stage for Belle Meade Village to become an emblematic example of design-driven urban development.
