Amtrak debuts the Floridian, with daily service between Chicago and Miami

Rail passengers will soon have a direct route from the Midwest to Florida. The Floridian, a new temporary Amtrak train service, will connect Chicago and Miami with stops in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa. This exciting route combines the best of the Capitol Limited and Silver Star, offering travelers a comfortable and scenic journey. This train combines the routes of the Capitol Limited and Silver Star for a limited time and makes its inaugural trip on Sunday, Nov. 10.

The Floridian promises a dining experience that rivals any fine restaurant. First Class passengers will enjoy complimentary Traditional Dining in the Dining Car, featuring chef-prepared meals, table service, and a variety of options, including vegetarian, vegan, and children's selections. Coach Class passengers can also enjoy a limited number of dining car meals for an additional fee.

Whether you choose Coach Class or a First Class private room, you'll experience spacious, reclining seats, ample legroom, and large windows to enjoy the passing scenery. First Class passengers can upgrade to a Roomette or Bedroom, offering additional privacy and amenities like in-room restrooms and showers. Accessible Bedrooms are available for passengers with disabilities.

The Floridian is a temporary measure due to the upcoming East River Tunnel Rehabilitation Project in New York. During this project, one tunnel tube will be closed at a time, minimizing service impacts and maximizing construction access. The Floridian will operate on a similar schedule and make the current stops of the Capitol Limited and Silver Star.

The Rail Passengers Association has praised Amtrak for this innovative solution, stating that it will free up badly needed equipment and take pressure off Northeast Corridor infrastructure during the tunnel renovation. They believe that riders will flock to this new service, eager to experience the restored one-seat ride from the Midwest to Florida.

With its comfortable accommodations, delicious dining options, and scenic route, the Floridian is poised to become a popular choice for travelers seeking a unique and sustainable way to experience the beauty of America.
