The Searstown shopping center in Flagler Village may soon be transformed into a high-rise residential development as part of a larger vision to redevelop the entire former Searstown area.
Real estate firm Aimco has submitted a site plan amendment application for a mixed-use development at 901 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. The proposed development, called 901 North, includes three towers with a total of 1,818,360 sq ft of space, encompassing 797 residential units, a 188-room hotel, 202,495 sq ft of commercial space, and a parking garage with 1,977 spaces. RK Centers, the owner of the property, has plans to build nearly 1,000 apartments in five buildings, along with over 100,000 square feet of retail, office, and restaurant space. Aimco has made several enhancements to the original plan, such as increasing setbacks and open space, reconfiguring the ground floor, adjusting tower heights, and reducing lot coverage. The project is expected to create a new neighborhood, contributing to the area's growth. Groundbreaking is anticipated for the fourth quarter of 2023, and the redevelopment is set to be one of the most high-profile projects in the area, shaping the future of Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale's Development Review Committee will consider the revised plans on May 9, 2023.
