Major Food Group (MFG), celebrated for its array of popular dining spots such as Carbone, ZZ’s, Sadelle’s, and Dirty French, is venturing into new culinary territory with the opening of Chateau ZZ, its first Mexican restaurant, located in Miami's unique chateau, the Petit Douy building in Brickell. The historic building, a city landmark since 1983, was designed by Martin L. Hampton and completed in 1931 as the home of John and Sheelah Murrel.
It features distinctive architectural elements like octagonal towers and trefoil arch windows. The space, reimagined by Ken Fulk and the MFG team, houses the restaurant on the ground floor, offering both indoor and outdoor dining, a solarium, bar, lounge, and gardens, while the second level is reserved for ZZ’s Club members, with a covered terrace and a lounge.
Chateau ZZ’s menu presents a variety of Mexican dishes. Appetizers include guacamole, a raw bar with Michelada oysters, coconut snapper ceviche, littleneck clam agua chile, and colossal stone crab claws. The starters range from Caesar salad to corn elote and albondigas diavolo. Main courses offer options like strip steak al pastor, whole branzino with sauces, and steamed lobster with jalapeno butter.
Desserts feature coconut tres leches and churros, among others.
The beverage program at Chateau ZZ is extensive, with over 1,000 tequilas and mezcals and a cocktail menu by Nathan McCarley-O’Neill, highlighting margaritas and tequila-based drinks. The wine list is carefully curated to pair with Mexican cuisine, featuring selections from Italy, Loire Valley, Burgundy, Bordeaux, and a focus on Champagnes and sparkling wines.
MFG, led by Jeff Zalaznick, Mario Carbone, and Rich Torrisi, is proud to introduce this lavish Mexican restaurant in Miami. Carbone stated, “We are honored to serve the best Mexican cuisine and cocktails in the region, in a setting that respects the rich history of its location.” The Ken Fulk-designed dining room offers guests a luxurious experience of MFG’s first Mexican culinary endeavor, with a menu that adheres to classic Mexican cooking but with MFG’s signature opulent twist.
