Two hotel development teams are competing to build and operate a 400-room hotel at Miami International Airport. The Miami-Dade County Commission is set to vote on the proposals on July 18.
One of the contracts is backed by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and a selection committee and involves FDR Miami Hotel, LLC, a joint venture between Fontainebleau Development and Related Companies. FDR plans to construct a $265 million Westin-branded hotel and pay the county $2.58 million annually or 3.5% of the hotel's gross revenue. The other contender is Parmco Airport Hospitality LLC, led by Darryl Parmenter and Les Melcher, proposing a $242 million Hilton Signia hotel and offering $1.13 million annually or 3.7% of gross revenues to the county. FDR's proposal is estimated to generate at least $244 million over 50 years, while Parmco's offer amounts to at least $98 million. Both developers have committed to hiring locals and negotiating with the service workers union. Currently, the only airport hotel at MIA is the Miami International Airport Hotel. MIA has experienced significant growth, serving over 50.6 million passengers in 2022.
