New renderings for Metropolitan Park, the $8 billion mixed-use development in Queens

New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has unveiled new renderings for Metropolitan Park, a 20-acre park planned for the former site of Shea Stadium in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens. The park is a key component of the 50-acre, $8 billion mixed-use development that includes a casino and hotel complex.

Rendering by SHoP Architects and Field Operations

Designed by SHoP Architects and Field Operations, Metropolitan Park is envisioned as a lush green oasis, featuring winding pathways, spacious lawns, and wide outdoor steps leading to the proposed Hard Rock Hotel and Casino complex. The park will be bordered by Shea Road to the north and west, Roosevelt Avenue to the south, and Citi Field, Seaver Way, and Mets Plaza to the east.

The mixed-use development will include a variety of amenities, including bars, restaurants, a sports book, and a live music venue facing Metropolitan Park and Citi Field. Three parking structures topped with photovoltaic panels will replace the parking capacity of the former stadium lots, and two hotel towers will surround Hard Rock's gaming facility and conference spaces.

Beyond the entertainment options, the development will also offer a tailgate park on the north side of Shea Road, a plaza with a food hall and community space to the south of the stadium, and 5 acres of public athletic fields and playgrounds on the southern side of Roosevelt Avenue. A bike path will loop around the perimeter of the complex.

The overall development is projected to generate more than 23,000 permanent and construction jobs. While approvals are still pending, the renderings offer a glimpse into the exciting future of this transformative project.
