Obsidian Residences is a luxury condo tower planned for downtown Sarasota, specifically at 1260 through 1274 N. Palm Ave.
The project is set to be the tallest condo building in the area, reaching a height of 337 feet and consisting of 18 stories. It will replace a series of single-story businesses that have been on the site since the 1950s. The additional height is attributed to the demand for higher ceilings in luxury condos. The project is currently going through the administrative site plan process and is expected to receive approval and permits by the end of the year. Some residents of Bay Plaza, located next to the proposed tower, have raised concerns about the project's height and potential obstruction of their views. However, the developer aims to enhance the beauty of the entire block and create a standout design. The building will feature 14 customized residences priced at over $4 million, with amenities such as a rooftop deck with a lap pool, spa, and firepit, as well as a wine-tasting room, cigar lounge, yoga studio, fitness center, and more. Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2023, with an estimated opening in the fall of 2025.
