During a healthcare industry summit in Nashville, Oracle Corp. chairman and chief technology officer, Larry Ellison, announced that Oracle will establish its new global headquarters in Nashville. This statement marks Ellison's first public appearance in Nashville since the company initiated a massive economic development project nearly three years ago.
Oracle, which is among the world's 30 largest public companies, plans to generate 8,500 jobs by 2031 on a $1.35 billion, 70-acre campus on the East Bank of Nashville, though construction is yet to start.
Previously based in California since its inception in 1977 and briefly shifting its headquarters to Austin in 2020, Oracle's move to Nashville aligns with its acquisition of the healthcare technology company Cerner Corp. for $28.3 billion in 2022. This acquisition heavily influences Ellison’s decision to relocate the headquarters, positioning Oracle to become the second-largest public company in Greater Nashville, next to HCA Healthcare Inc., founded by the family of former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist who interviewed Ellison at the event.
Ellison emphasized Nashville's robust healthcare industry as a primary factor for the move, highlighting the city's favorable living conditions and vibrant culture, which resonated well with Oracle employees. Oracle's future plans include developing the campus with features like a pedestrian bridge over the Cumberland River to connect with Germantown, enhancing the firm's integration into the community. Oracle is also leasing 100,000 square feet of office space downtown as interim measures continue, showcasing the company's commitment to integrating into Nashville's business and cultural landscape.
