Tampa International Airport (TPA) is about to unveil its most ambitious project in nearly 20 years: Airside D. New renderings offer a sneak peek into this state-of-the-art facility, designed to accommodate the airport's soaring passenger numbers, projected to reach 35 million by 2037.
The renderings, a collaborative effort by Hensel Phelps, HNTB, and Gensler, reveal a bright and airy space bathed in natural light. Exterior views showcase the Airside’s strategic position northwest of the Main Terminal, offering breathtaking vistas of the bay. Inside, travelers will be greeted by soaring ceilings, open spaces, and an International Arrivals corridor that elegantly wraps around the building.
While these images give a good idea of what to expect, airport officials emphasize that the designs are still evolving as the project progresses toward its grand opening in 2028.
Tampa International Airport plans to announce its Airside D anchor airline soon. However, we do know some project highlights, including:
16 gates equipped to handle both international and domestic flights
Two levels plus a mezzanine, home to two airline lounges with panoramic airfield and bay views
A dedicated first-floor International Passenger Arrival Processing Area
A central hub where shopping, dining, and 360-degree gate views converge
Airside D, with its estimated $1.5 billion price tag, is a testament to TPA's commitment to growth and innovation. This expansion will be instrumental in ensuring the airport can seamlessly handle its increasing passenger volume, currently at around 25 million annually.
