In 2024, The Park in West Palm Beach is set to host a unique golfing event, The Match. This televised event, scheduled for February 26, will see a first-of-its-kind mix of participants from both the PGA and LPGA Tours. The lineup includes Rory McIlroy, currently ranked second globally and resident of Jupiter, along with Max Homa, who holds the seventh spot. They will be joined by Lexi Thompson from Delray Beach, a major champion, and Rose Zhang, a rising star who secured her first LPGA win shortly after turning professional in May.
The event, starting at 6:30 p.m., will span 12 holes and be played under floodlights. Broadcasting networks TNT, truTV, and HLN are set to televise the event. The commentary team boasts notable personalities like Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley, along with Kathryn Tappen, Trevor Immelman (2008 Masters champion), Christina Kim (three-time LPGA champion), Grammy award-winning DJ Khaled, and NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette.
The Match is not just a sporting spectacle but also a charitable endeavor, supporting the youth-focused First Tee organization. To date, the series has generated over $38 million for various charities across the U.S.
This edition of The Match introduces a mixed skins format, where each hole contributes a specific amount to charity. The series, which began in 2018 featuring Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in Las Vegas, has evolved to include a blend of golf stars like Woods, Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and others, alongside sports celebrities from the NFL and NBA.
The second iteration of The Match in 2020, also held nearby at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound, saw Woods and Manning triumph over Mickelson and Brady in a four-ball format. McIlroy, a winner of four major championships and 38 worldwide titles, and Homa, a six-time PGA Tour victor, were previously competitors in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, with McIlroy’s team prevailing.
Thompson, an 11-time LPGA Tour victor and a six-time Solheim Cup participant, made headlines as the seventh woman to compete in a PGA Tour event, narrowly missing the cut at the Shriners Children’s Open. Zhang, a recent graduate, won the Mizuho Americas Open on her professional debut and has two NCAA Women’s Golf Championships under her belt.
Attendance at The Match is exclusive to eligible Capital One cardholders, who can either purchase or redeem rewards for tickets through Capital One Entertainment.
