A transformative project known as the "Rutledge Hill Culinary District" is currently under review in Nashville, potentially reshaping a key downtown subdistrict with its ambitious three-tower design. Planned by Essex Development in collaboration with GBX Group and the Norwegian architectural firm Snohetta, the project aims to integrate housing, high-end dining, and a range of services including a medical clinic and a police department office.
The development is strategically located to capitalize on stunning views of downtown, Nissan Stadium, and East Nashville across the river. It includes plans to preserve six historic buildings near Hermitage Avenue and Middleton Street, turning them into culinary destinations. Among these, the Chicago-based The Meadowlark, Hello Darlin' speakeasy, and Mr. J’s Original are set to become key attractions.
Additionally, the proposed site will feature a 200-room luxury hotel with condominiums, a lifestyle hotel tower, and a residential tower with 154 units. A 97,500-square-foot retail village is also planned, anchoring a farmer's market and various entertainment options. The project will offer 777 underground parking spaces to accommodate visitors and residents.
With its blend of modern architecture that respects the area’s Victorian heritage and an array of facilities aimed at enhancing the pedestrian experience, the project promises to expand Nashville’s urban core beyond SoBro into Rutledge Hill, fostering a vibrant community hub. Jai Patel of Essex Development expressed hope that the project will both preserve Nashville's rich history and spotlight local talent within this new development.
