The International Swimming Hall of Fame and Museum in Fort Lauderdale is currently undergoing an extensive $90 million renovation and expansion project.
Led by Hall Of Fame Partners, the project includes the construction of two new five-story towers: a 105-foot-tall museum on the west side of the peninsula and a 94-story welcome center on the east side. The development also encompasses a ballroom with a rooftop restaurant, a covered teaching pool, and 20,000 square feet of museum space. Additionally, the project will feature a cafe, office and commercial space, and parking for 202 vehicles.
Approved by the Fort Lauderdale City Commission in November 2021, the construction is well underway. While the west museum is currently closed for construction, the east museum remains partially open to visitors. The anticipated completion date for the entire project is set to open it’s doors in 2025. Although the renovation and expansion have faced opposition from local residents due to concerns over traffic and parking, supporters of the project emphasize its potential as a significant economic boost for Fort Lauderdale and a major draw for tourists worldwide.
