The planned campus, designed by Boston-based Elkus Manfredi Architects, will span approximately 300,000 square feetacross seven acres of donated land. The site, located near South Tamarind Avenue, will be developed into a state-of-the-art learning environment, emphasizing business, artificial intelligence, data science, and engineering programs.

Vanderbilt’s presence is expected to bolster the region’s reputation as a financial and technology hub, furthering West Palm Beach’s ambitions to become the “Wall Street of the South.”

Vanderbilt has committed to investing at least $2.4 billion over 25 years and $5.3 billion over 50 years into the campus and its related operations. Fundraising efforts for the project are well underway, with a goal of securing $300 million to support its initial phase.

The new renderings reveal a dynamic campus featuring modern, sunlit classrooms, expansive green spaces, and innovative learning environments. Inspired by the Vanderbilt University Arboretum in Nashville, the West Palm Beach campus will include an urban arboretum with native South Florida species such as slash pines, sabal palms, Cherokee Beans, sea grape, and gumbo limbo trees. These natural elements will serve both aesthetic and educational purposes, reinforcing the university’s commitment to sustainability.

Among the standout facilities planned for the campus are:

  • The Executive Education & Lifelong Learning Building – A flagship structure designed with exposed mass timber, creating a warm, natural learning atmosphere.

  • The Academic & Innovation Building – A collaborative space for students, faculty, and business leaders.

  • Outdoor Gathering Spaces – Networks of inviting green areas designed to encourage informal learning and student engagement.

  • Photovoltaic Solar Panels – Rooftop solar cells that will generate on-site power, aligning with Vanderbilt’s sustainability goals.

Construction on the project is expected to begin by 2029, if not sooner, with the initial phase requiring Vanderbilt to establish a $300 million facility that generates at least 4,500 construction jobs, enrolls at least 900 students, and employs 200 full-time faculty and staff within five years of opening.

The university’s agreement with Palm Beach County and the city of West Palm Beach comes with clear stipulations to ensure progress. Vanderbilt must maintain an active academic presence on at least 90% of the donated land, with a reverter clause in place should the university fail to begin construction within five years.

Beyond higher education, the project is expected to stimulate job creation, workforce development, and business investment in the region. Several initiatives are planned to enhance community engagement, including:

  • A fellowship program providing mentoring and internships for at least 25 local students per year.

  • Workforce development programs focused on equipping county residents with skills for emerging industries.

  • Partnerships with the Palm Beach County School District to support students in underserved communities.

  • Incentives for Vanderbilt employees who choose to live within a quarter-mile of the campus.

Stephen Ross, the billionaire developer behind Related Companies and owner of the Miami Dolphins, has played a pivotal role in advancing the Vanderbilt campus plan. He envisions the project as a catalyst for economic growth, comparing its potential impact to Silicon Valley’s effect on the tech industry.
